Beavers

Beaver badges that can be done as homework

There are several badges that are great to do as homework, these can be done at any time, just let us know. As ever any questions let us know.

 

 

Badge

Requirements

Sports

  1. Take part in a sport or physical activity regularly for at least 6 weeks.
  2. Take part in a match, competition or demonstration of that sport.
  3. Demonstrate to your Lodge, Colony or an adult the skills you have learned.
  4. Explain to your Lodge, Colony or an adult the rules of your sport.

 

Parts 1 and 2 can be done at any time, Parts 3 and 4 can be done at the end of a Beavers meeting so let us know and we’ll book a slot.

Collectorbe-as-col-2

  1. Make a collection over a period of at least six weeks.
  2. Show your Colony or Lodge a sample of things from your collection.
  3. Tell others in your Colony or Lodge about your collection. What is your collection? Why do you collect these things? What is your favourite item from your collection?

 

Parts 2 and 3 can be done at the end of a Beavers meeting so let us know and we’ll book a slot.

Hobbiesbe-al-ho

  1. Take part in a chosen hobby for an agreed period.
  2. Tell and show the Colony the chosen hobby.

 

This is for hobbies that don’t fit with the Sports or Collector badge. Part 2 can be done at the end of a Beavers meeting so let us know and we’ll book a slot.

  1. Show how to use a camera to take a good photograph.
  2. Create a scrapbook showing the different uses of photographs (eg news, advertising, art and so on).
  3. Take ten or more photos and show these to your Lodge or an adult. Why do you like these photos? What made you take them?

 

Part 2 should be done at home as well as taking and picking 10 photos. Part 1 and 3 can be done at Beavers (once prepared) let us know and we’ll book a slot.

Information Technology

  1. Show that you can switch on and close down a computer safely.
  2. Show that you know how to use the following:
  • monitor
  • mouse
  • printer
  • DVD Drive
  • Icon
  • Web cam
  • Microphone
  • USB Drive
  1. Use a piece of software of your choice to show that you can produce a poster to show others what you do in Scouting. It should include both text and graphics.
  2. Use a piece of painting software of your choice to produce a simple picture.
  3. Show you can use a piece of software that requires the use of a CD-ROM.

 

This badge is a little outdated now (My computer doesn’t even have a CD-ROM!). If you run through parts 1, 2 and 5 with the Beaver Scout and tell me they can do them and bring in parts 3 and 4 we will award the badge. If you want to try a higher stage the details are here but let us know as we’ll have to order the badge in.

Swimmerst-al-sw1

  1. Safety – Know the safety rules and where it is safe to swim locally
  2. Enter pool – Without using the steps, demonstrate a controlled entry into at least 1.5 metres of water
  3. Short swim – Swim ten metres on your front
  4. Tread water – Tread water for 30 seconds in a vertical position
  5. Water skills – Using a buoyancy aid, float still in the water for 30 seconds. Demonstrate your ability to retrive an object from chest deep water. Perform a push and glide on both your front and back
  6. Distance Swim – Swim 25 metres without stopping
  7. Swimming activity – Take part in an organised swimming activity

 

This can be done over a period of time, If you can bring in a letter or note from a swimming teacher (or similar) we will award the badge. If you want to try a higher stage click here for details but let us know as we’ll have to order the badge in.

Musicianst-al-mu1

  1. Skill – Listen to a short tune of a couple of lines and then sing it back. Listen to another tune and then beat or clap out the rhythm.
  2. Performance – Sing pr play two different types of song or tune on your chosen instrument. This performance must be in front of other Scouts, or at a public performance such as at a Group show, school concert or church service
  3. Knowledge – Demonstrate some of the musical exercises that you use to practice your skills. Talk about your instrument and why you enjoy playing it (or the songs you sing and why you enjoy singing them). Name several well-known pieces of music that can be played on your instrument. Name several musicians who you have heard.
  4. Interest – Tell your assessor about the music that you most like to listen to.

Parts 1 and 2 can be done outside of Beavers (with a note from singing teacher or similar as proof) Parts 3 and 4 should be done at Beavers, let us know and we’ll book a slot.
